Parking at Belfast International Airport
What it costs to drop someone off, what the car parks charge, what catches people out and who issues a ticket and how to appeal at Belfast International Airport.
Belfast International charges £5 to use the drop-off zone directly opposite the terminal for up to ten minutes, and publishes a short ladder above that: £8 up to twenty minutes, £13 up to an hour, and £60 beyond it. It is barrier controlled — you pay at the coin bin or card machine on the way out — so there is no notice in the post and nothing to appeal. What is worth knowing before you turn in is that the Short Stay car park costs exactly the same £5 for the first ten minutes and less than the drop-off zone for everything after: £6 rather than £8 up to twenty minutes, £7 rather than £13 up to an hour. And if you only need a quarter of an hour, the Long Stay car park has a fifteen-minute grace period that costs nothing at all.
Dropping someone off at Belfast International Airport
Dropping off at the terminal costs £5 to £60.
| How long you stay | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 minutes | £5 |
| Up to 20 minutes | £8 |
| Up to 60 minutes | £13 |
| Over 1 hour | £60 |
Belfast International publishes a single drop-off tariff for the airport, with no split by terminal.
The ladder above ten minutes is £8.00 for 10–20 minutes, £13.00 for 20–60 minutes and £60.00 for anything over an hour. Payment is made using the coin bin or card machine on exit, so the charge is collected at the barrier rather than billed afterwards. Cars must not be left unattended at any time, and there is a height restriction on entry to the zone — the short stay and drop-off zone are limited to 2.1 metres. Blue Badge holders are directed to the Short Stay car park instead, where 30 minutes are free: produce the badge to a car park team member, either at the office or by pressing the help button at the exit barrier.
Free alternative: The Long Stay car park has a 15-minute grace period and can be used as a pick-up and drop-off point. After 15 minutes normal gate rates apply.
Picking someone up
Collecting from the terminal costs £5 to £60.
The same zone and the same ladder cover collections. For an arriving passenger the airport points at the short stay and main car parks, which are close to the terminal and, beyond the first ten minutes, cheaper.
Free alternative: The Long Stay car park's 15-minute grace period works for collecting as well as dropping. For a flight that has landed but not yet delivered its bags, the Short Stay car park is the better bet: £6 up to twenty minutes and £7 up to an hour.

What catches people out at Belfast International Airport
- The car park next door is cheaper than the kerb — For the first ten minutes the drop-off zone and the Short Stay car park both cost £5. After that they part company: ten to twenty minutes is £8 in the zone and £6 in Short Stay, and up to an hour is £13 against £7. If there is any chance of more than ten minutes, the car park is the cheaper place to be — both tables are on the same airport page. source
- Sixty-one minutes costs £60 — The drop-off zone charges £13 for twenty minutes to an hour, and then £60 for anything over an hour. There is no step in between. Crossing the hour mark multiplies the bill by more than four. source
- Fifteen free minutes, but not where you would look for them — The Long Stay car park has a 15-minute grace period and the airport says it can be used as a pick-up and drop-off point. Nothing about the name suggests it, and it is not the facility signposted for dropping off. After 15 minutes normal gate rates apply. source
- 2.1 metres on the way in — Both the drop-off zone and the Short Stay car park are limited to 2.1 metres. That is low — a van, a people carrier with a roof box, or a bike rack on a high mount will not get in, and the restriction is on entry, so you find out at the front of the queue. source
- The Blue Badge half hour needs a person, not a badge on the dash — Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free in the Short Stay car park, but the ticket has to be validated: produce the badge to a car park team member, either by visiting the office or by pressing the help button at the exit barrier so someone comes to the car. Drive to the barrier and pay without doing that and the standard rate stands. source
If you get a ticket at Belfast International Airport
Belfast International Airport is private land. A notice issued here is a parking charge notice — a claim under the contract you accept by parking, not a fine issued by a council. Nobody at the airport has the power to fine you.
Belfast International publishes no parking charge notice for this zone, and no appeals route with it. The drop-off zone is barrier controlled and paid at the coin bin or card machine on exit, so the charge is taken as you leave rather than sent to you afterwards — there is normally nothing issued and nothing to appeal. The airport names neither an operator nor a trade body, so we cannot say whether a dispute would reach POPLA or the IAS. Northern Ireland has its own enforcement arrangements for public roads, but this is the airport's own land and its own barrier. If anything is issued to you here, read the operator's name and the appeals route off the document itself.
