Parking at Bristol Airport

What it costs to drop someone off, what the car parks charge, what catches people out and who issues a ticket and how to appeal at Bristol Airport.

BRSSomersetReviewed 19 October 2026

Bristol charges £8.50 for up to ten minutes in Drop & Go and publishes a full ladder above that, up to a stated two-hour maximum stay. It is barrier controlled, so you pay at the exit rather than being billed afterwards. The free alternative is a full hour: the Waiting Zone costs nothing for the first sixty minutes, with a bus to the Transport Interchange and a covered bridge to the terminal. The catch is the return rule. Drive out of the Waiting Zone and back in within thirty minutes and you get an automatic penalty charge notice — not a fee, a notice. The free hour is there so you stay put, not so you circle.

Dropping someone off at Bristol Airport

Dropping off at the terminal costs £8.50 to £60.

How long you stayWhat it costs
Up to 10 minutes £8.50
Up to 20 minutes £10.50
Up to 40 minutes £13
Up to 60 minutes £30
1 to 2 hours £60 Two hours is the published maximum stay.

Bristol publishes a single drop-off tariff for the airport, with no split by terminal.

The maximum stay in Drop & Go is two hours, and the ladder above ten minutes runs £10.50 for 10–20 minutes, £13.00 for 20–40, £30.00 for 40–60 and £60.00 for one to two hours. It is barrier controlled: payment is taken at exit by contactless or Chip & PIN, and Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted. Postcode BS48 3DY, with a 2.5 metre height limit. Blue Badge holders get up to 40 minutes for a reduced £8.50 by scanning the barcode at the exit barriers.

Free alternative: The Waiting Zone gives a full hour free, with a frequent bus to the Transport Interchange and a covered bridge to the terminal. Postcode BS48 3DW. Beyond the hour it is £20 for one to two hours and £20 for each further hour. Until 18 December 2026 the Waiting Zone has moved temporarily — follow the signs.

Picking someone up

Collecting from the terminal costs £8.50 to £60.

Drop & Go serves collections on the same ladder and the same two-hour maximum, so meeting an arrival at the terminal is charged exactly like dropping one off.

Free alternative: The Waiting Zone's free hour is the airport's answer to a delayed arrival, and an hour is long enough to be worth using. Just do not leave and come back: re-entering within 30 minutes brings an automatic penalty charge notice.

Car park Type Height limit Prices
Waiting Zone
A full hour free — the airport's free drop-off and pick-up area. A frequent bus runs to the Transport Interchange, a short walk from the terminal over a covered bridge, and accessible shuttle buses run from the Car Rental Centre. Postcode BS48 3DW. There is a no-return policy within 30 minutes: come back inside that window and an automatic penalty charge notice is issued. From 19 October to 18 December 2026 the Waiting Zone is temporarily relocated for refurbishment; the airport shows the temporary location only on a map, and the postcode BS48 3DW is for the usual site. The Car Rental Centre bus runs as normal, with a signposted walking route from the temporary zone.

What catches people out at Bristol Airport

  • The free hour ends if you drive out and back — The Waiting Zone gives a full hour free, but there is a no-return policy within 30 minutes and the airport says returning inside it brings an automatic penalty charge notice. Leaving to fill up, or circling out and back because a flight slipped, is exactly the move it catches — and it costs a notice, not a surcharge. source
  • Forty-one minutes costs £30 — Drop & Go charges £13 for twenty to forty minutes and £30 for forty to sixty. One minute past the forty-minute mark more than doubles the bill, with nothing in between. The next step up is worse: an hour and one minute is £60. source
  • A Blue Badge buys forty minutes, not free parking — Blue Badge holders pay a reduced £8.50 for up to 40 minutes in Drop & Go — reduced, not waived, and it has to be claimed by scanning the barcode at the exit barrier. It is a good deal against the £30 a non-badge driver would pay for the same 40 minutes, but it is not free, and forgetting the barcode means paying the standard rate. source
  • 2.5 metres, and no warning further in — Drop & Go has a 2.5 metre height limit. A van, a roof box or a bike rack on a high mount is the kind of thing drivers discover at the barrier with a queue behind them. The Waiting Zone is the alternative. source
  • The red route is a different charge entirely — Stopping on the Red Route on the airport approach is a £100 enforcement charge, reduced to £60 within 14 days. It has nothing to do with the Drop & Go tariff and no barrier stands between you and it — pulling over for thirty seconds to let someone out is enough. source

If you get a ticket at Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport is private land. A notice issued here is a parking charge notice — a claim under the contract you accept by parking, not a fine issued by a council. Nobody at the airport has the power to fine you.

Because this is not a council notice, an appeal does not go to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, which hears council penalty charge notices in England outside London, and Wales.

Bristol publishes the amounts but names neither the operator nor a trade body, so we cannot say in advance whether an appeal would reach POPLA or the IAS. The notice itself will name the operator and the appeals route — read it there. The Drop & Go tariff is a separate matter: it is collected at the barrier as you leave, so there is normally nothing issued and nothing to appeal.

The airport states that vehicles returning within 30 minutes receive an automatic penalty charge notice, but does not publish the amount. Note the difference from a re-entry fee: this is a notice, not a surcharge on the visit.

Common questions

How much is it to drop someone at Bristol Airport?
£8.50 for up to ten minutes in Drop & Go, then £10.50 for ten to twenty minutes, £13 for twenty to forty, £30 for forty to sixty and £60 for one to two hours. Two hours is the maximum stay.
Is there a free drop-off at Bristol?
Yes, and it is a full hour: the Waiting Zone is free for the first sixty minutes, postcode BS48 3DW, with a frequent bus to the Transport Interchange and a covered bridge to the terminal. Beyond the hour it is £20 for the second hour and £20 for each further hour.
What is the catch with the free hour?
The no-return policy. If you leave the Waiting Zone and come back within 30 minutes, the airport says an automatic penalty charge notice is issued. The free hour rewards waiting in place, not driving out and circling back.
What does it cost to pick someone up?
The same as dropping off: Drop & Go runs the same ladder for both. With a delayed arrival, the Waiting Zone's free hour is usually the better bet — forty minutes at the terminal is already £13, and forty-one is £30.
Will I get a parking ticket at Bristol Airport?
Not from Drop & Go in the ordinary way — it is barrier controlled, so you pay as you leave. Two other things do bring notices: breaching the Red Route restrictions is a £100 enforcement charge reduced to £60 within 14 days, and returning to the Waiting Zone within 30 minutes brings an automatic notice whose amount the airport does not publish.
Do Blue Badge holders park free at Bristol?
No, but they get a reduced rate: up to 40 minutes for £8.50 in Drop & Go, claimed by scanning the barcode at the exit barriers. Without the barcode the standard tariff applies, which for the same 40 minutes would be £30.
Is there a height limit?
Yes — 2.5 metres in Drop & Go. Anything taller needs the Waiting Zone instead.
